Félix Grandet reigns supreme in his modest home in Saumur, where his wife and daughter Eugénie live a joyless, uneventful existence. Driven by an extraordinary avarice, he views with suspicion the fine suitors eager to seek his daughter’s hand. Nothing must threaten the colossal fortune he keeps hidden from all. The arrival of Grandet’s nephew, a Parisian dandy, now orphaned and penniless, upends the young woman’s life. Eugénie’s love and generosity toward her cousin plunge Father Grandet into a fury without limits.
